Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was trolled on social media on Monday after he posted a picture with women MPs and said that the Lok Sabha is an “attractive place” to work. In his post that has now gone viral, Tharoor posed in a selfie with Baramati MP Supriya Sule, Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, Jadavpur MP Mimi Chakraborty, Basirhat MP Nushrat Jahan, Karur MP S Jothimani.

The post, which was shared as the Winter Session of the Parliament commenced today, hasn’t impressed social media users at all. The internet wasn’t in favour of the words that Tharoor used in the caption of his post and thought it was “disrespectful” in fact.

“Who says the Lok Sabha isn’t an attractive place to work? With six of my fellow MPs this morning (sic),” he captioned the picture.

However, after posting the picture, Shashi Tharoor has found himself at the receiving end of criticisms. The parliamentarian was mercilessly trolled and some claimed that his tweet was “sexist” and “disrespectful”.

One of the users said, “How does this doesn’t fit in the feminism’s definition of objectification of women.”

After his tweet generated a discussion on social media, Shashi Tharoor was quick to offer an apology and said that the whole thing was done in “great good humour”. “The whole selfie thing was done (at the women MPs’ initiative) in great good humour & it was they who asked me to tweet it in the same spirit. I am sorry some people are offended but i was happy to be roped into this show of workplace camaraderie. That’s all this is,” the Congress MP tweeted.

The Winter Session of Parliament began on Monday and is likely to conclude on December 23. During the session, 26 bills will be listed for introduction. This includes the Farm Laws Repeal Bill and the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill.
